This unique necklace features vulcanite heishi beads from Africa and the impressive green-coloured Bohemian Vaseline beads which glow under UV light. Golden brass Touareg beads offset the dominant green color. 48cm.
Vaseline beads were first used in Bohemia (now Czech Republic) around 1830 when Bohemian craftsmen and beadmakers experimented with uranium oxide in their glassmaking, giving the beads their glow-in-the-dark quality. Vaseline glassware production came to a stop during the Cold War and are now considered antiques or retro-era collectibles.
