This incredibly unique piece features a very old sacred chank pendant from the Naga tribe – a group of people living in north-east India and Burma who are famously known as the “headhunters”. It also features white conch shell beads called Turbinella Pyrem, which were harvested from along the coast of India and Pakistan. These were used as ornaments in Nepal, Tibet, India and Burma for more than 4000 years, and were particularly loved by the Naga tribe. The conch-shell beads used in this necklace are ancient (not newly made in India) and the etched figures add further unique quality to this piece. The necklace is completed with brass beads from Nepal, small old Bohemian glassbeads and small, round Howlitt spacers and a brass toggle clasp. 48cm.
